Job function:

The I&C Engineer stewards all phases of instrumentation and controls engineering.  He ensures that the Project's requirements, as detailed in the Project Design Basis and project specifications, for all instrument and controls engineering are carried out faithfully, and in a timely fashion.  Stewards I&C engineering aspects of the Project with other discipline on the PT, as necessary.  Stewards the interfaces among the PT and the detail design contractor's organization with respect to instrumentation to ensure quality and appropriate management of change.

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Provide overall instrumentation and controls engineering technical leadership and expertise
  • Steward the detail design contractor's activities with respect to instrumentation including:
    - Instrumentation engineering inputs to detail design deliverables
    - Development of instrumentation logic and loop diagrams
    - Development and design of the I&C system
    - Development of the schedule, recommended deliverables, and labor hour estimate for instrumentation
    - Measurement and reporting of engineering progress
    - Selection, specification, and inspection of instrumentation components
    - Procurement of tagged items including preparation of specifications, vendor recommendations, etc.
    - Instrumentation estimates for weight control report, as needed for modularization/transportation
    - Implementation of project standard instrumentation design for consistency with other areas
  • Review, evaluate, and advise:
    - Instrument specifications, logic and loop diagrams
    - Compliance with design methods and safety factors to be used in design of project.  Reviews completed
      design for correctness, compliance, and operability
    - Operability of the unit or plant for start-up, normal, turndown, and shutdown modes.  Reviews or sets
      design basis for abnormal operating conditions
    - Technical bid tabulations for instruments and instrumentation systems
    - Provide planning input for shop tests and Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and protocols
  • Participate in I&C technical specification preparation

 

Qualifications:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCES

     • Thorough and extensive knowledge of:
        - Instrumentation and controls engineering principles, theories, and concepts
        - Applicable codes, standards, and trade practices
     • Thorough knowledge and expert judgment in the selection and application of Instrumentation hardware
     • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
     • 7+ years of closely related professional engineering experience, 3+ years of which should be at the Senior
        Instrument Engineer level
     • Must be able to interface with others outside the Facilities Group to help determine whether or not design
        objectives/deliverables are being met
     • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs, Lotus Notes, etc.
     • Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities
